Saffron Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai. Surrounded by the beautiful blue waters of the Arabian Gulf, the Atlantis The Palm Dubai Resort is situated at the tip of largest man-made island in the world, the Palm Jumeirah. Kerzner International commissioned Tihany Design to conceive a contemporary and vibrant atmosphere for the all-day dining restaurant Saffron, consistent with the upbeat character of the Atlantis brand. To achieve this, Tihany introduced an interactive collection of contemporary exhibition kitchens under a dynamic wave of glass canopies, complemented by a dramatic light color system and sculptural stainless steel finished features.

For a bold and lively ambience, dining room lighting changes color based on the time of day, and a deep red carpet with an abstract circular pattern in the dining area further brightens the modern room.  Circular theme is continued to the custom glass canopies hovering above the eight glowing island exhibition cooking stations. These stations offer diners the opportunity of interaction with stunning design, as well as a variety of fare focusing on the freshest ingredients and prepared to order – from Middle Eastern and Western to sushi and dim sum.  Black marble with traces of rich burgundy and white meanders throughout the cooking station floor. Horizontal stainless steel bars intermittently line niches in the white walls, which subtly underscore the rich saffron color throughout the space.  Modern translucent red resin tables with the continuing orange and yellow circular pattern at the center are completed by contemporary zebra wooden chairs with metal bases.  In addition to a variety of global cuisine, a dessert station features a large cascaded chocolate fountain, also under a suspended glass canopy – a both decorative and edible touch.

A specially commissioned series of videos by New York-based artist Bram Tihany features cuisine imagery on screens throughout the restaurant. A large screen behind the Poach and Steam island cooking station shows a three-minute seafood video, while several other screens feature a 10-minute food video utilizing images inspired by and celebrating Asian cuisine and preparation, with additional references to Western-style desserts. These 3D images are presented in a rhythmic pattern, and complement the interactive exhibition cooking stations.
