Mandarin Oriental Geneva Geneva, Switzerland. Located in the heart of Geneva at the edge of the Rhone River, the Mandarin Oriental Geneva's seven-floor building, designed from 1948-1950 by d’ávant-garde architect Marc-Joseph Saugey (1908 -1971), is a national landmark for its modern architecture. The building was renovated by Jean-Louis Christen from 1989-1993. Tihany Design was commissioned to recreate the entire ground floor including: the main hotel entrance, the reception/front desk area, the two main restaurants with their re-conceived enclosed sidewalk café areas, and the addition of a new bar/lounge.

The overall design concept is contemporary and fresh, giving a strong and memorable design identity to each of the diverse areas, while maintaining an effortless elegance and harmony among them. This innovative yet consistent approach befits the legacy and image of the hotel, the Mandarin Oriental brand, and Geneva itself. Designed to increase the visibility of the bar and the All Day Dining restaurant and to energize the public space, the overall ambience is dynamic, reflecting the international character of Geneva. These two important venues will become the true “living rooms” of the hotel, contributing vigor and excitement to the whole experience. Separately, the specialty Indian restaurant Rasoi will emphasize its “freestanding” identity, positioned to become one of Geneva’s signature star restaurants.
